Algebra

Algebra is the first transitional step from arithmetic to higher level math concepts. Many students struggle in taking the next step into a higher level of mathematical comprehension which includes new concepts and processes such as linear graphing. At Hillview Prep, our expert tutors guide each student through this foundational journey of Algebra. Understanding his or her strengths and weaknesses and highlighting gaps in math comprehension.

Geometry

After Algebra I, most students transition into geometry. To many, geometry may seem like a new language of math: unlike algebra and arithmetic, subjects that require the student to master methods and concepts, geometry is all about structure and rules. Geometric proofs are built on how well rules fit together into one cohesive whole, and knowing these rules requires a lot of memorization and context. Our tutors recognize that for geometry, visualization is key. While some students are visual learners, others may struggle at geometry, preferring numbers over triangles. Hillview Prep will not only find the best method of learning for you, but will also help you structure your thought process, something very much needed in the world of geometry.

Calculus

Upon entering Calculus, many students may ask, “What in the world is a derivative? How does it fit into everything I’ve learned before? Why do I even need to know these concepts?” To many students, calculus is intimidating as they grasp what might be the most incomprehensible subject in their math experience. The fact of the matter is that calculus is one of the most real world subjects in academia, connecting math to areas such as science, finance, and engineering. Connecting these dots is the key to inspiring each of our students to strive to master calculus.

      My son attended Hillview Prep to prepare for the HSPT. He has always had some level of test anxiety and even more so with a test as important as the HSPT.  Over the course of two weeks and a couple weekends my son gained the knowledge and confidence he needed to take the HSPT and do very well. His prelim assessment test at Hillview Prep set the strategy and schedule for the next 2 two weeks, and they went to work. Over the course of the two weeks Ken was able to teach my son a new way of approaching test taking that reduced his anxiety of running out of time. The result was a huge increase in his math and comprehension scores from where they started, and acceptance into his two top school choices and his back up choice. As a side benefit the techniques Ken taught my son also carried over to regular school work as well. Ken is an exceptional educator and I look forward to working with him again as my son progresses through high school and eventually the PSAT, SAT and ACT. I highly recommend Hillview Prep above any other teaching establishment, their approach to teaching, learning skills, time management and information retention is second to none and their ability to accommodate busy schedules is a blessing.

      Hillview Prep is the only tutoring service we will use. Ken & his team are excellent tutors.  My kids have gone there for help with algebra, chem & biology as well as test prep.  They tried two other places before finding Hillview; both were unsatisfactory in different ways.
