Increase Your Chances of Acceptance with a Great HSPT Score

Our online HSPT classes are designed to help students improve their scores, which will then increase their prospects of being accepted into the Catholic High School of their choice.

Our classes offer extensive coverage of all five sections of the HSPT, i.e., reading, quantitative, math, verbal, and language.

We work with the most dynamic and experienced teachers who are not only passionate about what they do but also create a fun learning environment to help students learn with ease.

Our Students Love Our Online Classes

In the initial classes, the students attempt a model test for all the five subtest sections of HSPT. Following this, we teach the students techniques and strategies for problem-solving, which will be helpful for them to succeed in all parts of the test.

Over the subsequent duration of the course, we give the students more practice tests.

This allows the students to assess how much they have improved in each area. While this gives them the confidence to take on the HSPT, it also gives us insights.

We then use these insights to facilitate further improvement and ensure success.

What Our Students Say…

Referred a family friend to Hillview Prep for their SAT prep and they were VERY happy with their results. Ken and his team are very smart and incredibly knowledgable about both the subject matter and the tests themselves. With the highly competitive nature of admissions these days, I would highly suggest working with Hillview to give your children the best opportunity to be accepted in to their top school.

Ken did an amazing job preparing my son for the HSPT. Due to a mistake on our part we didn't reach out to Hillview Prep until a few weeks ahead of the test. Ken was willing to squeeze in the entire course into a few weeks for my son. My son received a great score on the HSPT and was admitted to both Mitty and Bellarmine. I know his test score was a direct result of the tutoring he received at Hillview.

My son attended Hillview Prep to prepare for the HSPT. He has always had some level of test anxiety and even more so with a test as important as the HSPT. Over the course of two weeks and a couple weekends my son gained the knowledge and confidence he needed to take the HSPT and do very well. His prelim assessment test at Hillview Prep set the strategy and schedule for the next 2 two weeks, and they went to work. Over the course of the two weeks Ken was able to teach my son a new way of approaching test taking that reduced his anxiety of running out of time. The result was a huge increase in his math and comprehension scores from where they started, and acceptance into his two top school choices and his back up choice. As a side benefit the techniques Ken taught my son also carried over to regular school work as well. Ken is an exceptional educator and I look forward to working with him again as my son progresses through high school and eventually the PSAT, SAT and ACT. I highly recommend Hillview Prep above any other teaching establishment, their approach to teaching, learning skills, time management and information retention is second to none and their ability to accommodate busy schedules is a blessing. Hillview Prep is the only tutoring service we will use. Ken & his team are excellent tutors. My kids have gone there for help with algebra, chem & biology as well as test prep. They tried two other places before finding Hillview; both were unsatisfactory in different ways. One simply had tutors who could not teach and the other was outrageously overpriced having doubled the price of their services in less than a year.

FAQs

HSPT (High School Placement Test) is a standardized test that is commonly used by Catholic high schools for the purpose of admissions. Given the high competition, it is important to score well on the HSPT so you can get admission into the school of your choice.

The standard HSPT has a set of five standard subtests and may take around two and a half hours. The paper has a multiple choice test pattern and is done with a pencil on paper. The test has a total of 298 questions that cover various aspects, including quantitative skills, verbal skills, language skills, reading, and mathematics. Schools may also have elective Catholic religion and science-based subtests that comprise forty questions each.

The HSPT is regarded as the most significant criterion used by Catholic High Schools for determining acceptance, particularly for the top most competitive schools. Its importance can be compared to the significance of SAT scores for college acceptance. Besides the HSPT score, other factors that high schools consider for admission include:

  • The standardized test scores for seventh and eighth grades
  • Students’ middle school grades
  • Middle schools attended by the students
  • Letter of recommendation
  • Participation in extracurricular activities
  • Personal statement/application essay

There are five subtests in HSPT. Their domains include

  • Verbal skills- logic, synonyms and antonyms, analogies, verbal classifications, logic
  • Quantitative skills- number manipulation, number skills, geometric and non-geometric comparisons
  • Reading- vocabulary, words in context, reading comprehension
  • Language skills- spelling, composition, and usage
  • Mathematics- problem solving and concepts

The HSPT exam is scored according to a scale format- generally, the highest score is 800, while the lowest score is 200. However, please note that each school may have a varying set score that is considered to be a passing score.

You can take the HSPT only one time. As per the STS website, if you attempt the HSPT more than once, your lower score is considered for the purpose of placement.

Expert instructional methodology- Our experienced instructors will provide you with guidance for all the five sections of HSPT.

Smart scouring system-We use a unique tool for assessing your strengths and weaknesses. It enables us to personalize your learning approach and helps you get maximum scores.

Test attempt strategies- We offer valuable techniques to enable you to manage your time effectively, tackle different types of questions with ease and confidence, and reduce your anxiety.

While there is no definite starting point for preparing for HSPT, there are some factors you must consider when making that decision.

  • Application deadline- Various Catholic high schools have different application deadlines, so it is important to check for the schools you are interested in applying to. Knowing these deadlines will give you a general timeframe for when you should start preparing.
  • Your familiarity with standardized tests– If you are new to tests like HSPT or feel anxious about them, it may help to start preparing for them earlier and familiarize yourself with the test format and ways to attempt the test effectively.
  • Your learning pace-Some individuals take time to build their skills and knowledge in a slow and steady manner, while others prefer intensive preps much closer to the test date.

That said, experts recommend you start preparing at least a couple of months before the expected HSPT test date. This duration should provide you with sufficient time for preparation without feeling too overwhelmed.
